ice5commerce is a Microsoft Windows based program, so you have to run it on a PC, and not a Macintosh. The program requires a html editor that understands ASP.Net Framework 3.5, so we recommend Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition, which is free to use. If you’re a professional developer, then Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition is recommended, and runs about $550.00 for a single license. If you have Visual Studio 2008 Professional, then that program will work fine. We have just upgraded to Visual Studio 2010, and have created a .Net 4.0 Version, that is under going testing.
We haven't used Adobe Dreamweaver in awhile, we have version CS3, and it was not able to recognize our custom server controls. Dreamweaver has limited support for ASP.Net, and only supports a scaled down version of the common asp.net library.
You start building your store on your PC at home or you’re PC at work. The most common practice is to upgrade your PC into a web development machine, and then install Internet Commerce Engine 5 as a project in your IIS Server default folder. When you’re done building your site, you can then deploy it, to your production web server.
If you’re using Visual Studio 2008, then a dual core processor will do the job, with at least 2 gigs of memory installed. You must use a Professional Version of Windows, like Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Business, or Windows 7 Business Edition and up. The reason is because the home versions do not support IIS Server and SQL Server.
Visual Studio 2010 Professional, then we recommend using a new quad core processor machine with at least 4 gigs of ram. The intellisense feature seems to use allot of CPU power, and it takes awhile to type in characters, and see them appear on the screen.
We have tried to make the installation of the program as easy as possible. You must be warned however that the technical level of expertise required would be at least someone familiar with Windows, Expert but not a genius, or just someone that can assemble a bicycle or bar-b-que by just reading the instructions, and following the directions in the Installation Guide.

We now fully support Windows 7 and Server 2008 including the R2 Edition. Installation of the program is not that difficult for Windows 7, but setup on Server 2008 is a bit more tricky.
