The Setup Wizard is a work in progress, but we have gone out of our way to make sure that it is successful. It only has to work once to get you going, and the payoff is huge.
The success of this program will make or break Internet Commerce Engine 5, and make owning your own ecommerce store possible for thousands of more small and medium business owners.
The current version is 1.5.5.4. If your having trouble with your Setup Wizard, then make sure you have the most current version first. You can get the most current version here down below.
Warning: You will get the message publisher cannot be trusted, do not run applications from publishers that cannot be trusted. This means that we have not purchased a Trusted Application Security Certificate from Go Daddy. The certificate is $900.00, so we will have to sell a few copies of the program before we purchase one. We apologize for this, and will purchase one soon.
Setup Wizard now supports Windows XP, Vista, 2003, 2008, 7 - IIS5.5+
We have modified the Setup Wizard to now support IIS7 and IIS7.5. Full support for getting the required informatiom from the IIS7 series is now available in the Setup Wizard V1.5.5.0.
The modification turned out to be pretty easy to figure out. Our next upgrade will be a unified installer with a build-it Setup Wizard, that will store your settings locally. It will create yoru website automatically in any version of IIS Server, and then create your database. Look for it in March of 2011.
Setup Wizard is a Windows One Click Application that is provided to assist you in setting up Internet Commerce Engine 5 for the first time. Setup Wizard is designed to assist you in creating your first database in Microsoft SQL Server 2008. After the database is created, it will also setup your first Administrators account so you can login to Site Administrator and begin setting up your store.
It is very important to print out your credentials at the end, and keep them in a safe and secure place for future reference.
The source of Setup Wizard is the Admin foder of Internet Commerce Engine 5, and is a local application that is on your hard drive. Setup Wizard will check for updates, and will download a newer version if it is available.
Setup Wizard is experimental still, and requires testing across more platforms, so it may be unstable in certain applications or enviroments. We experimented with web based versions, but they only work in the dev enviroment. This Windows Verson was created because we need the security credentials of your Windows User Account in order to complete the process. Once your SQL Database and Admin account is create, it will simply go away.
To start the Setup Wizard, click on the start ice5 icon on your desktop. If you can't find the icon, then type in http://localhost/admin/index.aspx and the setup wizard will load automatically if it is required.
If you have already loaded and installed SQL Server 2008, then select option 2, or Step 2 Run Active X Setup Wizard.
Upon loading, the Setup Wizard will check it's manifest, for security purposes. Your computer will tell not to run programs from an untrusted source. You must trust the program and run it. The security certificate for the program is quite expensive, and is on the list for purchase.
The first page will be used for scanning your computer or network for sql servers. Go with the default values, and just type in your password, and then select Scan Network. No data is transmitted outside your network. The password is only passed on to SQL Server for Authentication.
The next page will present you with our findings from IIS Server. If we find multiple websites assigned to IIS Server, then you must select the correct one in Select Website Path.
We can tell the difference between SQL Express and the full edition of SQL Server. Just make sure that the instance of SQL Server matches the instance name you selected during the installation of SQL Server. If in doubt, go with the default we presented to you.
If this is your first database, then just go with the default name we have assigned. If your a advanced IT Professional, then you can change the name.
READ ME -Look carefully below, for the Select Website Path. If your running Setup Wizard on a Server, there will be multiple paths to choose from. You must select the path that the application is installed to. Failure to do so will result in data files being written to the wrong website, and you will never be able to login.
When ready, click Create. If the database already exist, we will give you a error message telling you that the database already exist. If not, the database will be created, and the tables will be constructed and populated with the default data. Setup Wizard will also create your master SQL Server account, password and user permissions automatically.
Now it's time to create your first user account. Setup Wizard has alrady tested the connection to SQL Server, and has already located your website. Begin by filling out the information below. When selecting a password, make sure you use a strong password to protect your site from hackers and theives.
READ ME -After filling in the information, go ahead and click on Create. You Site Administrator Account will now be created automatically. When done, click on Print, to print out your credentials. Failure to print out your credentials will result in you not being able to access your database later on in use.
If you lose your credentials, we cannot get them back for you. You will have to start all over again. If you lose your password, you will never be able to open the database. You will have to figure out how to change the password in SQL.
When done, select Exit Wizard, and your browser will be activated again, directing you back the Site Administrator. When the Site Administrator comes back up again, it will remind you that you are in 30 Day Trial Mode.
Just click continue to login to the Site Administrator.
If you experience an error, then please call us and let us know so we can fix it. We want to make sure that the Setup Wizard is robust across all platforms, and that all programming errors get fixed for everyone. We can't fix it if we don't know about it.
